Self Care

"It only takes a few small steps to make a big difference in your life. Once you start making these little changes, it gets easier to make yourself a priority too. Learning to connect with yourself and cater to your own needs only helps you be a better mother, wife and friend." -- Holly Rust, HuffPost

I am a huge advocate for self care. I know it looks differently for each of us, but I wanted to share with you some of the ways I stay sane through this crazy journey called motherhood. Of course I love my little tribe, I love spending time with Eloise and I wouldn't trade being a stay-at-home-mom for anything in the world. I do think it's so important that we take the time we need in order to be a better wife, mom, friend and overall good person in society. :)

Care/of

+ I recently discovered, Care/of, a vitamin company that personalizes your vitamins and supplements based on a quick test you take when you sign up. All you have to do is take a short survey about yourself, your lifestyle and diet and Care/of curates a monthly supply of daily vitamins and supplements especially for you. From there, you can read care/of's research, add and subtract from their recommendations and personalize your pack even more. They monthly prices can range depending on what you might need, but most are around $30 a month.
My monthly recommended pack came with 6 vitamins and a little cheat sheet so I can reference back to what I'm taking. I think it's so amazing that they can assess your diet and lifestyle (like if you're vegan, if you're pregnant or nursing, if you're an athlete, etc) and make recommendations based on what might be missing in your diet or needs to be supplements based on your lifestyle.
I love how honest and transparent this company is and how easy they have made it for me to keep up with my daily health.
You can visit their website here to take the quiz and find out what your pack looks like!
I also hav a special coupon code for your first order: BURLEY50

+  Photography has been a little hobby of mine for about 5 years, and I'm to the point now that I take photos every single day. I love capturing moments of our life, candid moments of Eloise and our adventures we take as a family. I print all of my photos using Chatbooks in three month increments so that Eloise can have them all when she's older.... because printing every single photo I have of her would take so much time to put into albums. Printed photo books for the win.

+ A few times a week I get up earlier than Eloise to have my coffee and read. The days that I actually do this are amazing. There is something about drinking hot coffee in peace that sets a positive tone to the rest of the day. I am loving the books I'm reading right now... so if you need a gift for a friend:

+ I also run 4-5 times a week. It's my way of decompressing, achieving goals and having adult conversations with friends. I actually just finished my 4th half marathon with a new personal record of 2:03. It was 20 minutes faster than my last record + a super fun weekend away with one of my good friends. Most of the time I run with Eloise in the stroller, but occasionally I will go when Nick gets home from work or super early in the mornings to run solo.

+ I just started trading babysitting with one of my friends and we loved it. We did it last summer and started again as of last week. Our toddlers are close in age and love playing together so it works out perfectly. Mostly they kiss and eat snacks so... it's super easy ;) So if you have a friend or family member that you can trade childcare with, do it! We switch for a couple of hours and it's amazing what you can accomplish without a child hanging on your legs.

+ Nick and I are really good at letting each other have alone time a couple times a month. I usually spend my time in palm springs shopping at anthropologie, whole foods, total wine and trader joes.  Or if it's been a busy month I'll go to our local farmer's market get coffee and go antiquing/thrifting by myself. Having an entire afternoon, or sometimes day, is so good for my soul. Of course I'm thinking of Eloise the whole time I'm gone, but I think it's a great opportunity for her to have some one on one time with Nick as well.

+ Who doesn't love a good spa day?! These only happen once a year, twice if I'm lucky. I recently went with my bestie for a spa day in palm springs and it was much needed. Coffee, massages, foot treatment, lunch, champagne, the pool.. it was  a m a z i n g.

It can be so hard to find the time to take care of your self.... trust me I know! But if you start slow and small, you might find even 20 minutes of quiet time in the morning sets your day up for a good start. And if you have a extra couple of minutes, this article is amazing about motherhood and the importance of self care.
